Information On Teng Chong Xiang Yang School

Tengchong city is located in the Yunnan province of China, near the border of Myanmar and China. It is one of the most rural and remote parts of China, and is largely undeveloped. The main source of income is agriculture. There are no industries, and many families are constantly in poverty due to the low income from agriculture. A non-government organisation based in Shanghai raises and donates money as well as basic aids to some of the students of Tengchong city, who has severe economic difficulties, in order to help them to continue their school life. The students who receive aid from the committee are so poor that their families even struggle to merely survive let alone buying daily uses such as shoes and stationery for them. The families of the students usually all consist of only one parent, where the other parent has passed away in an accident, or has divorced. Some students also lost both parents, and live with their grandfather and grandmother. There are also students whose parents are disabled or are constantly sick, which leads to an even lower income than normal. Due to these issues, many of the students are unable to afford finishing school, and usually quit school at the age of 15 to work on their family farms or to support the family. One of these schools that receives aid from the committee is XiangYang Prep School, which we have contact with.

The Destination of our Donations

Academic, Sports, and Arts Scholarship Fund

The Sunflower Project is committed to supporting and assisting students who are talented and gifted in their strong areas through our Scholarship Fund, established and funded by the founder of the Sunflower Project, Bowen Cheung. Through this program, we hope to motivate and recognise those who are dedicated and passionate towards what they love, and who are willing to work hard to achieve their own targets and goals. We hope to encourage them to support others in the future similar to themselves and to give back to their community, and to sustain such an action, as well as most importantly, to create a difference in this world themselves.

Bursary

Our Bursary program involves providing a charitable fund for those who need it most in the school, and to lend a helping hand in sustaining their education and their living. With this donation, families are able to purchase daily necessities and food for their children, and also to sustain the requirements of their education, which is often an issue concerning families who are even struggling to survive. The reason behind a large proportion of children discontinuing their education is due to economical instability within their families, and by assisting them through such a Bursary, we are able to create a huge impact upon many students, granting them opportunities in which they deserve to have just like the more privileged. A crucial part of our donations go to the Bursary, and you can make a critical difference yourself towards this great cause

Purchase of Stationery, Books, and Clothing

Some of our donations also go towards the purchase of school necessities, which we aim to support other students who are in need or as an act of recognition for those who excel in school. They are also used to purchase books for the school library, formulated of donated books by other charity groups. We believe that books are simply an invaluable source of wisdom and knowledge, and plays an inseparable role in society ever since the dawn of humanity.

New Activity Introduced

The students of Xiang Yang Prep School are now presented with the opportunity of taking cheerleading as an activity, ignited by a fantastic inter-class competition which saw brilliant dedication, passion and talent among the students. Such an invaluable opportunity was provided to the students by one of the most prominent professional cheerleading specialist groups in China led by Jane Huang and Miss Mao, teaching first the teachers of Xiang Yang school who then passed on their knowledge to their students. They completed this first step together in an incredible time of no more than 2 months, thanks to the fiery enthusiasm from both sides. The students of Xiang Yang School will hope to go on to represent themselves afterwards in the national competition, who will certainly establish an inspirational legacy of their own as they embark on their new journey down this pathway.
